OUR SIX CORE PRINCIPLES

Personal growth begins with self-awareness. By exploring and understanding our values, motivations and potential, we feel empowered to chart our own unique path in life.

Learning to find connection to the moment and the world around us provides stability. In a world filled with distractions, learning how to ground ourselves builds resilience.

Learning to face uncertainty teaches us adaptability. Life is filled with unexpected changes, and learning to embrace rather than resist these changes helps us to grow stronger and more flexible.

By fostering critical thinking, we are better equipped to understand and navigate our lives and the world we live in; enabling us to face and overcome challenges and adversity with confidence.

By fostering courage and not trying to escape from the feelings of anger, negativity and frustration, we overcome adversity by transforming our fear into a catalyst for growth and self-discovery.

Leadership is not just about guiding others—it’s about developing the confidence to lead our own lives with purpose and direction.

'Lancashire Youth Challenge have helped me in so many ways. I chose to become a volunteer as my time as a participant came to an end and I wanted to do my bit to give back in any way I can. It is such a privilege to be able to mentor the young people and work alongside such an amazing and skilled team that LYC has. I want to share my lived experience going through the programme myself and trying to make a positive impact in someone's life no matter how big or small.'

‘I am now at college, doing my public services course and I want to work in the Prison Services, as I want to help people and I want to make change in people’s lives. I wouldn’t be thinking about this work or be the person I am without LYC. Being a part of LYC has supported me in so many ways and helped change my life.’

‘I would like to thank you and the other staff for changing my life. To be honest, I don’t know if I would still be here, if I hadn’t had all of these positive experiences and met all of these amazingly kind people’

‘LYC has enabled me to see myself in a different light. Before I arrived here, I was really bullied and I thought that no one liked me, that I was useless at everything, I was stupid and there must be something wrong with me. Then, when I met the other young people and the staff, they really helped me and supported me and now I feel that I do deserve to be here, I do deserve to be alive, I am something, I am someone important and this has helped me so much with my mental health.’

‘Getting involved with LYC has been and is life changing for our young person and we are grateful for how hard the staff have worked to support him to access the groups and we know that the experiences he has had will stay with him for the rest of his life’.

‘I cannot thank Lancashire Youth Challenge enough for all the opportunities they have given my son. From the peer support, activities, challenges and the residential's to the 1-1 support from the team to help build up his confidence and to help him believe in himself. Thank you again for everything.’

- Parent

‘We have had my son in numerous programmes and schemes designed to help and support young adults with learning difficulties, and none have been successful in the way that LYC has. He has either been unable to cope academically or practically or emotionally in these environments, but at Lancashire Youth he has flourished, and his confidence has grown immeasurable, enabling him to cope with difficulties in his own life. I can't say enough positive things about Lancashire Youth and their team of amazing staff. I honestly don't know where my son would be at this point without them.’

“You absolutely don’t know the difference in my son after spending time with LYC. The activities allowed him to socialise, make friends and mix with people, giving him a huge confidence boost. He is still in contact with the friends he made over a year ago and LYC has given him experiences he never would’ve had otherwise. He has been involved with many different organisations and not one of them has given him what LYC has given him. They have made such a difference, and I am very grateful.”

“LYC has massively benefitted my daughter. She initially had low self-esteem and was home educated due to anxiety. I have watched her confidence build and the friendships she formed really helped her. She has joined a drama group and now has enough confidence to return to school.”

"My daughter has had a fantastic time at LYC. These are the main things she has gotten from the experience: increased confidence and self-esteem, new friends, and a better sense of who she is and what she likes. I think the biggest testimony is that prior to attending LYC, she was self-harming weekly and dreading going to school following some serious online grooming and stalking which left her confidence shattered. It now been over 5 months since she last self-harmed and her school attendance is now 100%. We are both so grateful for what LYC has helped my daughter to achieve."

"We have noticed positive change in our young person since they started at LYC, they are now better at managing their mood and emotions."

"I struggled massively with my mental health when I was younger and was referred by CAMHS to LYC. Seems mad now but I tried to kill myself a few times and just thought the world was better off without me. I’m now a peer mentor and having the chance to stop someone feeling like I felt or let them know that they’re not the only one has been incredible. I’m so glad I am still here, now I can use my experiences to try to make sure other LYC kids don’t feel like I did."

"I love getting to pick what we do for the challenge; nothing seems to mad to not have a go at. I’ve been in other projects, and we do good stuff, but you never really get a choice what it is or really know why we’re doing it. At LYC we take ages and do sessions where we talk about what we want to achieve this year, how we’re going to do it and what we want to get out of it. Knowing I’ve picked it gives me loads of motivation to want to take part and complete it."

It was never just about the cycling. It was about making new friendships, learning new skills, discovering what we’re capable of and finding out what happens when we work together. It was about the fun, the laughs, the moments that pushed us outside our comfort zones, and daring to dream a little bigger. ✨And sometimes, it was simply about having the space to reset, switch off and learn a little more about ourselves. The miles were just part of the journey. 💙 ...
