2013 LANCASTER TO EDINBURGH CYCLE CHALLENGE

Lancashire Youth Challenge began life as an informal partnership between the Duke’s Theatre, FYLDE YMCA and the Marsh Community Centre. The three partners were interested in exploring how creative arts practice, sports activity and outdoor challenges can work together to empower young people to achieve personal success

So, in 2013 we embarked on our first challenge;  a punishing 220 mile, 3-day team cycle from Lancaster to Edinburgh.

To prepare for this immense challenge the team completed a rigorous 6-month training programme of weekly core fitness training, spinning classes and weight training delivered by professional instructors at Lancaster YMCA. We also embarked on cycle proficiency training, road awareness, road safety and formation cycle training, delivered by CTC.

Our young people decided they wanted to help raise much-needed funds for Unique Kidz, a fantastic local charity that provides care and support for young people with disabilities.

Thanks to our young people’s sterling efforts we helped to raise over £1500 for this grassroots charity.

The team of young people engaged in film making workshops delivered by the Duke’s and helped to create the documentary film below:
